Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
Following up on the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the distant reaches of the universe. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
A Cosmic Adventure Drawing from Beloved Titles
In the vein of the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will meet again some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Notably, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The film will see the return of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
